I am Scot Rumery, a business advisor, database engineer and web developer specializing in technology implementation. I am proud to live in Allegan Michigan, where I live with my wife and daughter.  We enjoy much of what West Michigan has to offer.

I have always been interested in how things work.  I’m excited about making things better and I am deeply interested in the process, taking the time to understand why and how, listening and learning.  Why is something set up a certain way and what makes it work?  How can we make it better?

I feel the same about business processes and workflow optimization. My entire professional career I have been improving the ideas of others and expanding their businesses. That’s what I do. Learning the process, digging deeply and making it better, stronger and more efficient through people, relationships and technology.

I was born and raised in Michigan and moved to Chicago immediately after high school to attend DeVry.  I worked my way through school and took advantage of a job opportunity that offered me much more than a paycheck.  I received extensive business skills by closely working with my mentor, the owner of the company.  I dealt with all aspects of the business, from the manufacturing floor to major retail sales exposure, while my primary role was managing the IT department.  I received my degree from DeVry University in 1998 and began my career as a consultant.

For the next two years I continued to learn about multiple businesses in various industries by providing client-based and web-based database solutions.  In 2000, I started freelancing and built a business from scratch, this time focusing on the web only by building full-service custom database solutions and managing a web site hosting division.

My last venture started out as a web development project in 2004 and turned into a five-year partnership running a real estate company.  As CEO, I worked with my business partner and employees to improve overall operations and implement technology in order to work more efficiently.  We streamlined the existing process.  It was a thing if beauty.

During the downturn in the real estate market, my partner and I had to make some tough decisions.  We had to scale down and eventually close the business.  This meant laying off many employees who put their hearts into their work each and every day.  It was extremely difficult, but necessary. Through all of this, I discovered that I wasn’t happy with our product, with real estate.  I loved the process of making our company work better, but I couldn’t get 100% behind what we were selling.

Inevitably, closing down operations was a good thing.  I am getting back to what makes me happy. That’s how Rumspeed was created.

You have to love the process, the journey. Yeah, it’s not always easy but when you get through it, it’s always worth it.
