Rumspeed

Rumspeed evolved because I wanted to get happy again doing what I loved: working with businesses and incorporating modern technology to make them more successful. But like many other aspects of my life, there is another story behind Rumspeed, a full-circle of sorts, a little history.

I grew up in the small town where I now reside and run my business. Until recently, it had been twenty years since I’d moved away to Chicago, away from home and on to something else. Like many others before me, I never thought I’d move back to where I came from. But I did.

My grandfather lived and worked here, too. We were very close and I admired him greatly. He ran an insurance business in town and was a well-respected man in the community. He was kind, ethical, and generous.  My memories of him include him surrounded by friends and family, laughing and conversing. Someone was always seeking him for advice or for a chat. He was always happy to oblige, listening, helping, working in his community.

My grandfather had a racehorse named “Rum’s Speed”. In thinking of my new business name, I knew I wanted something with meaning, as I was now embarking on a meaningful venture in my life. I remembered this small town, I remembered my grandfather’s presence, I remembered his community involvement and his want to help others. All of a sudden it made complete sense, that I had come full circle, back to family, friends, and community, back to my roots. My office is even three doors down from his old place. It was meant to be. “Rum’s Speed” embodied everything I believed about my grandfather, his work ethic, his values and his life.

As the founder of Rumspeed, I am excited about improving business operations and consumer products, and deeply interested in the process. You have to love the process, the journey, in order to be successful. Digging into the core of your business processes and building it back up with efficient technology is not always easy, but it’s worth it.
